The 20th anniversary of Austria´s accession to the European Union on January 1, 2015 changed a lot in our lives. So I thought that this could be the occasion to reflect about this major event for Austria – and Vienna – in a different way. Instead of having a lengthy brochure with a lot of very heavy and important analyses, I decided to go for a new kind of dialogue. I decided to confront the people who, 20 and more years ago, had been involved in politics, negotiation and media, with those who had been born in those years. The results of these dialogues between „young and old“ produced a little brochure – „Turning Twenty“, which you can find in the web.
The interviews focus around a range of issues: environment, transport, mobility, education and training, jobs and growth, peace. You will find editorials of the Mayor of Vienna, Michael Häupl, and the former chancellor of Austria, Franz Vranitzky. It is rounded up by a time-line with major EU-related facts for the City of Vienna.
